Autumn is colourful and the changing leaves stunningly beautiful. Most summer activities like SUP on the lake, hiking and mountain biking can still be done well into October - November. In fact in regards to temperature sport activities might even be better in autumn rather than during the hot summer month. Check out our summer activities sites for more details. Rice Harvest

Not only the trees change colour in September and October here in Nozawa. The rice terraces turn Gold and rice harvest usually happens sometime around mid September. Come and see the local farmers during the rice harvest or even join one of them and get your hands dirty. We can help with organising rice harvest and other farming experiences in the area for group of friends or families.

Mountain biking

Nozawa Onsen offers some of the best Mountain Biking in Japan. There is great downhill and single trails in and around Nozawa Onsen. Go and explore for yourself or book one of our recommended guides to take you through the Japanese forest and show you some of the secret spots around. Road Cycling

Not sure if it gets much better than cycling through the hills and mountains of Nozawa Onsen. The local back roads are perfect for road cycling. You can choose from easy and flat or hard and steep. Cruise along the nearby Chikuma River for an easy Sunday ride or challenge the top of Mt. Kenashi and get your T-Shirt sweaty. Stroll the town

Nozawa Onsen is the perfect town to walk around. Nothing is far away and you can walk from one end to the other easily in 20 minutes. The small, winding roads are perfect to get lost in and get to know the area and meet some of the friendly locals. There is about 4000 permanent resident in town and most of them are happy to have a chat and are curious where people do come from. Walking tours are available. Contact us for further details.
